Day 2 Five Valleys

Today, enjoy a delicious continental breakfast at the hotel before a walk through three of the Five Valleys in the Cotswolds.
Starting at Painswick, famous for its 99-yew tree churchyard, the annual Clypping ceremony and its clypping feast featuring Puppy Dog Pie. We walk through the old weavers suburb past an impressive mill building before visiting the tiny former textile village of Slad, immortalised in words and on film as the former home of Laurie Lee, author of Cider with Rosie and other classics. The route then crosses the valley to Bisley, by legend the burial place of the young Princess Elizabeth, later Elizabeth I, before dropping down through the alpine village of Chalford, which was famously supplied with groceries by donkey, and home to the studios of Damien Hirst. Next head into the Golden Valley which is home to the Thames and Severn Canal – a regency water canal.
During your walk, you will enjoy an included picnic lunch. Return to your hotel this evening for your evening meal.
Meals included: B,L,D

Day 3 Bath and Lacock Abbey

Enjoy an included continental breakfast at the hotel before heading to the city of Bath for an included walking tour. Bath has been a popular spot since the Roman times and is home to Ancient Roman Baths. The City is also renowned for its beauty, particularly its Georgian architecture which mainly dates back to the 18th century. During your walking tour, admire the stunning Georgian architecture at the iconic Royal Crescent and the majestic Circus before learning about Jane Austen, one of England’s most renowned literary authors and resident of Bath. Visit the outside of Bath Abbey which dates back to the 7th century. It has been renovated a number of times, including in the 19th century by Sir George Gilbert Scott, architect of the Battersea Power Station in London.
Enjoy lunch at leisure.
This afternoon, visit Lacock Abbey, a former nunnery which was originally founded in the 13th century. The abbey was a nunnery until the persecution of the Roman Catholic faith during the 16th century, then becoming a private residence of Sir William Sharrington. The property has been added to a number of times over the years, meaning the house has a number of different styles. The Abbey later became the residence of William Henry Fox Talbot, a 19th century scientist and inventor who is said to have perhaps created the first camera negative. Enjoy a tour of Lacock Abbey.
Return to your hotel for dinner this evening.
Meals included: B,D

Day 4 Bibury, Coln St Aldwyns and Bourton on the Water

Enjoy a continental breakfast this morning before heading to Arlington. Here, you will first visit Arlington Row, a row of Grade I listed former weaver houses and one of the most iconic sites in the Cotswolds. The cottages originally were wool stores but became weaver cottages during the 17th century. The cloth was produced in the cottages and dried out on racks outside the houses on the ‘Isle of Racks’.
Next, continue your walk through the beautiful village of Bibury, known for its further examples of weaver cottage architecture and St Mary’s Church. Continue through beautiful English countryside as you follow the alongside the River Coln. End your walk today at the quaint village of Coln St Aldwyns, where you will enjoy an included pub lunch at the New Inn.
This afternoon, transfer to Bourton on the Water, known as the Venice of the Cotswolds due to its river which is crossed by five, low arch stone bridges. Much of the village is designated a conservation area. Enjoy a walk around the village and enjoy taking pictures before we return to the hotel.
Enjoy a farewell drink to toast your trip before sitting down to your final dinner.
