Day 1: Rome to Venice

RomeGood Morning – meet up with your Trip Manager this morning as you get an early start and meet up with your Contiki Squad who your going to be hanging out with for the upcoming days. First up we have to say Arrivederci Roma. No doubt packed full of pizza, pasta and gelato, we say a fond farewell, knowing that another Italian icon is just around the corner…Verona!

In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, a posse of travellers, all alike in excitement, check out the place that inspired Romeo & Juliet, yes, the very same balcony. One for the romantics of the group. We’ll also check out the Roman Arena where other love stories were told. 

VeniceYes, it’s as cute as you imagine. Yes, you’ll feel like you’re part of an Italian fairytale. Yes, you are actually hanging out in the gondola clad floating city of Venice! And tomorrow it is yours to explore…

A&O Venice Mestre (or similar) See Juliet’s balcony & Arena di Verona Ah! The sight of this famous balcony will turn even the most hardened cynic into a romantic soul. And the Roman arena is an Insta post just waiting to happen. 

Day 2: Venice

Wake-up sleeping beauties! Venice is yours for the entirety of this glorious Italian day. We’ll be jumping aboard our own private boat and hitting the canals en route to the historical heart of the city. A guided walking tour and a gondola ride are up for grabs, or you can always choose to get lost on your own and see where the maze takes you.

Cruise on a Motoscafo to Venice Speed across the lagoon to the aqueous island of Venice. Get total James Bond vibes.   See canals and gondolas Life’s all about the waterways here; there’s not an Uber in sight! Get some classic pics of the famous gondola boats.
GondolasSit back & watch the city open up from the canals in a gondola. From magnificent palazzi looming in the distance to the locals‘ laundry strung across the backwaters, Venice’s charm gets you at every turn.

Day 3: Venice to Salzburg

Gelato, pizza, historical monuments, coastlines, gondolas; you have all been wonderful!SalzburgOnwards and geographically upwards – it’s time for the mountain ranges that made the Sound of Music famous. Also home to Mozart, you can be pretty certain this place knows a beat. Today we’ll also see the largest preserved fortress in Central Europe – Hohensalzburg – and have the chance to visit a local farm and enjoy an authentic Austrian Dinner prepared by our hosts.

See Hohensalzburg Fortress Marvel at one of Europe’s largest medieval castles, perched high on the hill over Salzburg. Like something out of the Sound of Music.
Sights & Sounds of SalzburgSalzburg is the home, beating heart & birthplace to some of the greats in classical music! Whether the hills are alive with the sound of music or the streets are captivating you with their charm, take in the magnificence of one of Europe’s most elegant cities on foot. See all the iconic sites of this wondrous city including many from the Sound of Music movie plus some hidden gems along the way too.

Austrian Farmers Dinner & Schnaps Evening (MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience)This evening we take a beautiful drive in to the Austrian Alps where we dine with the locals. We visit a local farming family who will not only prepare a delicious meal for us but also invite us to sample & enjoy their homemade ‘Schnaps‘- a true Austrian specialty. Stunning scenery, a hearty meal & all drinks included? What more could you ask for!

Day 4: Salzburg to Prague

SalzburgAustria, you are an overwhelming beauty. Although it would be nice to stay forever, it’s time for us to cross the border into the Czech Republic. With Prague on the horizon, things are looking mighty fine. PragueCastles and bridges and gothic cathedrals make the city of Prague a surprise and delight. Compact and bursting with atmosphere, use your free time to trot around on foot and see what you stumble upon (hoping to heaven it’s the traditional fruit dumpling of ovocné knedlíky).

Prague’s iconic landmarks Charles Bridge. Wenceslas Square. Old Town Square. The Astronomical Clock. See them all IRL in this whimsical city.  Tour Prague on foot Walk through the winding cobbled streets and head up into the fairytale-like Castle District for panoramic city views.
The Eagle’s NestThis was gifted to Hitler by the Nazi Party to celebrate his 50th birthday. It’s in fact an engineering marvel as it sits perched atop of the Bavarian Alps – like a true eagle’s nest. It was preserved after WWII due to its direct links to Hitler as it was used as a holiday retreat for high-ranking Allied officers, plus it boasts some of the most spectacular views of the Alps, one definitely not to be missed!

Day 5: Prague

Prague
With a full day to loiter, expect an entire photo album of Gothic architecture, market antiques & you cheers-ing local beer; not to mention life! Use your free time to shop for some famous Bohemian beads and amber jewellery or dive a little deeper into the lanes and courtyards of the Old Town, and sus out a roof bar for a cocktail overlooking the city.

Day 6: Prague to Berlin

PragueJust remember, with every great city we leave behind, we get a little bit closer to somewhere new to explore. And today that somewhere new happens to be the cultural hub of Berlin. Thanks for everything, Czech!

DresdenA road trip from Prague to Berlin would not be complete without stopping in Dresden. Destroyed during World War II, the rebuilt city is now a symbol of resilience, soaked in the rebirth beauty of an Opera house, the domed Frauenkirche, & the Royal Residence.BerlinCome for a wall covered in art & history, stay for a culture of cool, a smorgasbord of partying & enough unique German flair to leave you desperate to see the rest of the country. Today we will shower you in iconic sites, none more interesting than the remains of the Berlin Wall.

Historical Walking TourDiscover the history of 20th century Berlin with our Local Guide & get up close to notorious Third Reich spots. Get the low-down on Hitler’s last days at the site of his underground bunker & learn about Goebbels, the sinister spin doctor at the former Reich’s Propaganda Ministry. You’ll hear about East German communism before making a sobering visit to the Holocaust Memorial.

Day 8: Berlin to Amsterdam

Get the Best View of Amsterdam There’s no better way to start your time in the capital city than with an exclusive entrance into Europe’s highest swing. Today use your time to get local, bar hop, museum crawl, and see what other tastes take your fancy, this place is famous for pancakes, frites and so much more. This evening, opt in to enjoy a delicious dinner with the rest of our Contiki fam.
